This Tuesday 7th of May the museums of Tarragona have presented a program expected for the International Museum Day, which will be on Saturday 18th of May, and this year coincides also with the celebration of the Night of the Museums. For the tenth consecutive year, the cultural institutions of the city have united to promote a joint itinerary between different museums and cultural centers, the "Journey to the Museum Constellation". In addition, as a novelty, museums have together published a leaflet with the program of the day, edited with the support of the Patronat Municipal de Turisme de Tarragona, which will be distributed from the different cultural sites.
Journey to the Museum Constellation
With the coordination of Auriga Serveis Culturals, the itinerary "Journey to the Museum Constellation" will allow the public to visit eight museums in the city following the slogan chose by ICOM for this edition of the International Museum Day "Museums for Education and Research". On board of the little touristic train, this guided tour will focus in aspects related to research or education in every stop. In the case of MNAT, it will be an oportunity to deepen on the ongoing work of restoration being done at the museum, and the contributions this project provides on research and dissemination.
There will be four different groups to carry on the itinerary during the afternoon and evening of the 18th of May. Departures will be at 17:30h (CaixaFòrum), 18:00h (Praetorius), 20:30h (CaixaFòrum) and 21:00h (Praetorius). The tickets, 5 euros each, will be available on Wednesday 8th of May at 09:00h on the MNAT website.
Open doors
The MNAT joins the celebration of this date, firstly, with the usual open doors day at all MNAT venues (Tinglado 4, Early-Christian Nechropolis, Roman Vila of Els Munts, and the Monumental Complex of Centcelles). Moreover, Tinglado 4 will be opened during the Museums Night until midnight, also with free entrance.
Little Museum Night
The MNAT promotes once again together with the Tarragona Port Museum, the Little Museum Night, addressed to families. The main news will be the proposal Nostrum Mare, an interactive game that will be installed on the outside of Tinglado 4, and the visitors will be able to become Roman merchants and carry their products across the sea routes from end to end of the Roman Empire.
There are two pases expected at 19:00h and 20:00h with free entrance although with limited capacity. The activity is addressed to families and children from 8 years old. During the same hours, visitors can also enjoy free family activities at the Tarragona Port Museum. You can check here the program of the Little Museums Night.
Nostrum Mare will also be going on on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th from 10:00 am to 14:00 pm., at the outside of Tinglado 4, inside the Tarraco Viva Festival addressed to adults.
