This Wednesday, January 17, the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona (MNAT) has participated in the presentation of the 4th edition of the Centcelles Composition Awards, organized by the association Amics de la Música de Constantí, with the collaboration of the City Council of Constantí, the Escola Municipal de Música "Rafel Gibert Recasens" and the MNAT itself, with the sponsorship of REPSOL.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Centcelles Monumental Complex and was attended by the mayor, Óscar Sánchez, and the councilor for culture, Dolors Fortuny. Also in attendance were Mònica Borrell (director of MNAT); Francisco Montoya (Repsol communications manager); Remei Tell, representing the association of Amics de la Música de Constantí; Josep Boada, director of the Municipal School of Music "Rafel Gibert Recasens"; and the musician from Constantí, Joan Reig.
The director of the MNAT, Mònica Borrell, emphasized the importance of "a heritage space to host activities and initiatives like this", since "knowledge about heritage makes sense if we can transmit it and make people feel it as their own, also as a space for leisure". The mayor of Constantí, Óscar Sánchez, expressed "the pride to be able to present, one more year, a project that has been growing and has been consolidated over the first three editions".
The main objective of this call for proposals of the Centcelles Composition Awards is to keep promoting the musical creation and disseminating the musical pieces of current composers. The main news of this fourth edition is that the pieces will have to be created in the Leider format for tenor and piano, in order to make the voice be the main character of this call. The works submitted must be completely unprecedented, which means, there must not have been previously performed, published or broadcast in any kind of format or computer sound file. The style, writing and structure of the piece is completely free.
The jury of the IV Centcelles Composition Awards is composed by music professionals. The wining piece will be presented in one of the concerts of the Cicle de Concerts a Centcelles, during July 2024. In addition, the winner will receive 3,000 euros in cash. The deadline for the submission of scores is Friday, May 10, 2024.
The first three editions of the Centcelles Composition Awards have been a success in terms of participation. In the last edition, in 2023, the prize went to the pianist and composer Gerard López Boada.
